No Progress with Investigation into Attack on Cuban Pastor
By Jeremy Reynalds
Senior Correspondent for ASSIST News Service
SURREY, ENGLAND (ANS) -- Local officials in Moa, Cuba have told the family of a Cuban pastor who was violently attacked and left for dead in early February that they have no suspects in the case.
According to a story from human rights organization Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), Pastor Reutilio Columbie, 41, continues to suffer from dizziness, intense nausea and vomiting.
Columbie, pastor of the Shalom Christian Center, a Pentecostal church in Moa, Cuba, was attacked by unknown individuals in the early hours of Feb. 6, and left unconscious on the street.
CSW said the pastor was on his way to file a complaint with regional authorities regarding the confiscation of the church vehicle by local officials in late 2011. The only thing taken from him was the document proving Columbie's legal ownership of the vehicle.
Columbie told CSW last week that the attack has left him incapacitated, with memory and speech difficulties, near constant dizziness and nausea. As a result, he is unable to preach at his church or travel outside of Moa. He has been advised to seek a consultation with a neurologist in Havana, but is physically unable to make the 923 km trip.
CSW reported while Columbie reported receiving a lot of support from the community, he said the local authorities remain intransigent on both the investigation into the attack and the confiscation of the church vehicle.
He maintains that his purchase and ownership of the vehicle was legal, but is worried that with the disappearance of the key document this would now be virtually impossible to prove.
CSW said local sources have expressed serious doubts about the impartiality of the investigation into the attack on Columbie, telling CSW that in order to conduct a credible investigation, the authorities would have to look beyond the civilian population to their own ranks.
CSW said Columbie and his family expressed gratitude for the support for the pastor in and outside of Cuba despite their disappointment with the authorities. "We don't understand why any of this has happened. Everything we did was legal."
CSW's Advocacy Director Andrew Johnston said in a news release, "CSW continues to call for a thorough investigation into the attack on Pastor Columbie and the return of the church's vehicle. If local authorities are unwilling or unable to fulfill their obligations, the regional or central government must ensure that those who attacked Pastor Columbie are brought to justice."
He added, "We would also like to see the authorities address the larger legal situation which helped lead to this crime against Pastor Columbie, and remove authority over all religious activities and property from the Office of Religious Affairs of the Communist Party. Religious activities and property should be regulated through the regular channels with proper recourse for appeal." Dearly Beloved Friend,
Last month, Jeannette and I celebrated 50 years of service for our Lord and Savior. December 1961 we were accepted by Mission Aviation Fellowship and for 30 years had the joy of seeing God work in amazing and wonderful ways in Latin America and literally around the world.
Our daughter Angela was 5 weeks old when we flew a new Cessna to Chiapas, Mexico to begin the dream I had as a 10 year old. Our oldest son Mark was born in Chiapas and later, David, between Mexico and our new assignment in Colombia.
In 1991 the Lord led us return to Chattanooga, to assist our elderly parents in their sunset years. 1993 brought the opportunity to organize Leadership Ministries Worldwide and see the Lord bless and grow the verse-by-verse publishing of God's Word in 16 languages and 200± countries.
Fall of 2005 we completed our role and accepted invitation from Chinese church leaders to organize Amazing Grace International. AGI sought prayer and project partners to publish and legally print in China, the Mandarin OUTLINE Bible New Testament. By June 2009, God had wonderfully provided the legal authorization and the $454,000 of funds for the first 30,000 volumes -- Awesome and Amazing.
In 1999 I went to Cuba for first time and since then, have been invited by Cuban church leaders for 8 more teaching and training trips. CUBA777 is the outgrowth and in 2010 we joined Titus International as volunteers, with goal to see Spanish OUTLINE Bible materials legally printed in Cuba and help train church leaders in verse-by-verse study, teaching and preaching.
During 2011, we rejoiced to see God's hand moving, such that the first 8,000 copies were printed and are today being used mostly in house churches all across Cuba. One Cuban church group now conducts an annual 50 Day Prayer Campaign, between Easter and Pentecost. We've been privileged to join and help during two years. Now we've been invited back this spring and hope to see next 15,000 funded and printed.
I so wish you could go with us; that you could meet these beloved servants of our Lord. Pastors Jose Enrique, Moises, Rolando, Dr. Victor Samuel, and hundreds of house church leaders are at forefront of the rapid church growth in Cuba, along with scores of others we assist.

• Rejoice with us, for God's faithfulness over these past years.
• Pray with us for 2012 and the CUBA777 project underway.
Join with us in daily prayer:

Thank you for every prayer, every donation, every expression of support. We feel most unworthy but deeply grateful for this great privilege in Cuba. Our role is to enlighten, encourage, enable, and equip thousands of faithful Cuban church leaders as well as you our dear friend.
Recently the Vatican announced the Pope will visit Cuba March 26-28. Already this is having major impact on evangelical churches and ministries. While our trip in late March may be impacted, the CUBA777 printing and missionary projects will go forth, as the Lord provides and supplies funds and resources.

Hello Bro Tito
Below is brief email from Pastor Moises Isla in Cienfuego, with whom I've had privilege to train and equip in Methodist churches across Western Cuba. This comes also with the full support and blessing of Bishop Ricardo Pereira, who I first met 3 years ago when a team, headed by Doug Ross, conducted pastor/leader training conferences.
From your sharing the digital files of the MANUAL PERSONAL ...3,500 copies were printed by the Baptist last year. Now the Methodist on their initiative have published to equip and encourage their pastors, national missionaries, and house church leaders. (see pictures below)
All these, and many more, benefit and are blessed daily from the OUTLINE Bible series Editorial Portavoz team produces and distributes.
Interestingly enough, Bishop Pereira spoke today at Asbury UMC in NC. You can read a published report which sheds very interesting light: http://www.greenevillesun.com/story/260826 You'll see his quote in the next-to-last paragraph, stressing daily prayer.
May your labors continues to faithfully fulfill and provide God's Word and needed Spanish materials. Your assistance is deeply valued all across CUBA; Editorial Portavoz is probably the best-known and most trusted name-brand among evangelical pastors, church leaders. and lay people.
Please join the scores who PRAY:

Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Cuban Prayer Room - used day/night!
Dear Jack:
We are pleased to inform you about the handing out of the book "El Manual del Obrero Cristiano" "what the Bible says...to the minister" among the Methodist pastors missionaries and local preachers.
The handing out took place during the closing service of our annual conference June 17 2011, at the very moment of the appointment every pastor received a copy of the book as you can see in the pictures I'm sending to you.
The rest of the books were given to the district superintendents to hand out to the missionaries and local preachers all over the country.
Thank you for making possible that books like this be given to our pastors and leadership.
In his never changing love —Pastor Moises.

Dear Cuba Prayer Friend,
Today's email brought Day 38 prayer bulletin from Cuban churches. You perhaps have seen and been reading the earlier ones I've emailed. Trust you are praying daily for our Cuban brothers and sisters in Christ.
Scroll down and you'll read where Pastor Josè Enrique informs Cuban churches who receive the Spanish version of this, about CUBA777. He is calling Cuban Christians to pray for us - you, your family, and ministry.
Would you pray with me for Pastor Josè Enrique's health. As I've mentioned earlier, he suffers from major medical problems. He is unable raise his arms above the shoulders is but one example. Lord willing In July, he is coming to the USA for 3 weeks, sponsored by supporting churches. During a stop in Texas, they have arranged a complete medical exam for him.

Bro Josè is national coordinator of prayer. His life has been both a blessing and challenge to me in these short years. His prayer life begins early morning, and I've knelled beside him in all night prayer meetings.
This dear brother and his beloved family deserve our prayers and support. Join me, please. At the very bottom is link to their videos; scroll down, click and you'll hear their passion and purpose in prayer. See Pastor Josè and his family.

May broad opportunities be opened to them to belong to our churches and to practice the Christian faith. Bless the police and the military who are already members of our churches, that they might give a good testimony to their peers and their superiors.
PRAYER CONCERN 2009: Evangelizing the religious
"Good news for Jacob and Ishmael (Jews and Muslims)." "Lord, help us to reach in Cuba those religious or blood descendants of Jacob and Ishmael, Jews and Muslims. THANKSGIVING FOR JACK WALKER AND THE CUBA 777 MINISTRY
The Baptist work in Cuba has historically been closely linked to the Christian people of North America. Nothing embarrasses us about this, because our relationship with them has been profoundly spiritual, and we have received the best that our Christian brothers have to offer. In practice, the help that we have received from that country for the development of our denomination--and especially in these last years for the Cuba 2010 Project--has come from the heart and from the resources of these dear brothers and sisters. Although most of their names are unknown to us, yet they are very close to us in love and appreciation.
One of these who have collaborated with us is brother Jack Walker and his wife, Jeannette.
Jack is a man of prayer who loves Cuba. He has been with us in various prayer workshops during the "50 Days of Prayer for Cuba" campaigns. He founded a ministry in the U.S. which supports our nation called CUBA 777. In his last report, dated February of this year, there are more than 370 intercessors involved in this ministry who pray faithfully and fervently for the Christian leaders in Cuba:
7 minutes a day, 7 days a week, 7 prayer requests
Those intercessors who have joined this ministry receive updated prayer requests from Cuban Christian leaders and churches, as well as a periodic publication of current issues and news about Cuba.

Dear CUBA777 Friend
As the Lord brings to mind, please pray with us the next few weeks:
• Mar. 29 - Apr. 15; we fly to Chattanooga for deputation, meetings at TITUS headquarters, and visit family, friends, and project donor partners. May we reflect and share appropriately the vision and opportunity of CUBA777.
• During our visit, will be sharing Updated CUBA777 project for 2011-12; trusting for remaining needed funds of about $16,000. (see attached)
• PRAISE - email last week from Cuba (first in long time) told of 4 new churches organized in villages where Jeannette and I trained house church lay leaders last spring. Oh what joy!
• April 4-8, Jeannette will be in Nashville. She's executor and power of attorney for her closest friend, diagnosed with bi-polar and dementia. Big challenge during those days is getting her to accept going into appropriate facility.
• May 1-4; will be sharing CUBA777 with current and potential new prayer/donor partners. Potential trip to N. CA, Oregon, and Utah.
• Thanking the Lord for provision of newer Lazy Daze motor home to better facilitate travel to future conferences and meetings, plus getaway times with friends.
In the Grip of His Grace ...
Jack

Dear CUBA Prayer Partner
As I mentioned earlier this week in my PRAISE message of Bro Shi's release in CHINA ... we also received email report from Bro Josè Enrique in Vueltas, CUBA - where we had such an extensive teaching and training ministry last spring.
Weeks and months had passed with no emails from Cuba. Now comes the refreshing news of God's hand of mercy, healing, curing, encouraging, and restoring His faithful Cuban missionary and church servants.
THANK YOU for each/every time you've prayed for our dear Brothers and Sisters laboring for the LORD in Cuba. They're battling such overwhelming odds daily, with almost no resources. Indeed they merit and deserve our unconditional prayer and project support.
OK. From his email (attached original in Spanish) here's brief summary of his extensive, detailed report.
• Among the VICTORY ROAD national missionaries reported ill last year -- Esnilda, Rosaida, Mary, Odlanier, Rudy, Maritza and Yuleisi have ALL regained their health, recovered from surgery, and returned to Full Time missionary service to house churches around Vueltas.
• After almost 10 months of untold labor and tiring work, the VICTORY ROAD Missionary Truck is 98% completed. He says "better than ever"- enlarged and will safely transport additional passengers and cargo. I estimate they lack about $275 to pay for inspection and re-license.
• The two motorbikes were fixed, then failed again, and now are near completed overhaul. These cycles have helped open new house churches of prayer in Piedra, Vega Alta and La Quinta. A new aspect: the new believers have planted beans and tomatoes on the grounds. Last week they brought "first fruit" offerings for the missionaries.
My best estimate is $365 needed for final moto parts.
••• God willing - they hope to Re-Dedicate the Truck & Motos to God's service on Saturday, February 26th. I have advised Bro Josè that we're sending funds. * If you would like to help with this and other CUBA777 projects at BETEL CHURCH - Vueltas, kindly send your love gifts to TITUS INTERNATIONAL marked Cuba.
• In recent weeks, five (5) new missionaries volunteered, have completed their training, and will be ordained to sacred Kingdom missionary service on February 26th.
• January 22, three (3) new full churches were duly organized in El Chorreron, Jutiero, and La Pedrera. Bro Josè reports a festival of rejoicing in these three new lighthouses of the Gospel. Jeannette & I traveled to and trained church leaders in all three of these last April; have moving memories (and pics) of them.
• Last Sunday, in the BETEL CHURCH Vueltas, 70 missionaries and deacons completed orientation and training; and were accepted into the harvest field service of that area. Also in the closing public meeting, 15 souls responded to accept Christ as Savior!
• Sister Carmen, who house was badly damaged by the hurricanes, as yet still has not received the promised government help. Nevertheless, she has remained faithful in her missionary zeal and God has provided housing with one of her daughters.
• Remember Moses and Yohanna needing house before they can marry. He heads the Betel Productions of music videos, photography, and distribution. Well, the Lord is providing; they are gathering little-by-little enough materials to build small one(1) room cottage. By faith, they have set AUGUST 13 as wedding date, trusting the cottage will be ready enough.
• The 2011 Prayer Campaign of 50 days begins Easter Sunday and finishes 50 days later - Pentecost Sunday. It was my privilege to be there the past two years and experience the power of their devoted prayer for Cuba. Bro Josè Enrique is the National Chairman for this outreach to churches all across Cuba during April and May.
••• You may recall we were invited for the 2011 Campaign. We've been planning and preparing. However events in Cuba plus some recent medical concerns here, have resulted in postponing our trip. Lord Willing-March 2012. Pray With Us.
Josè Enrique closes by saying, that all send a big hug to each and every CUBA777 prayer/project partner. He expresses profound appreciation that we are concerned, praying, and helping them.
Because you've been a faithful CUBA777 prayer partner, God has heard, answered, blessed, and given the increase.
Please continue to remember:
• Pastor Josè Enrique, his wife Inez and family
• Betel Church-Vueltas many outreach programs
• February 26 - Circle Your Calendar to P R A Y and Rejoice!
• VICTORY ROAD Missionary Band of 25 devoted to reach
more than 70 sites around Vueltas
• 50 Day Prayer Campaign preparations for all Cuba.
• Bro Josè Enrique as he leads/directs this great Campaign.
• Remaining Funds to complete vehicles and projects.
Gratefully and With Appreciation,
Jack & Jeannette Walker

Dear Friend and Ministry Partner,
Jeannette and I are excited that next week, we'll have the great honor to have Dr. Victor Gonzalez and his wife Marcia visit with us here in California for a day and evening.
We first met 3 years ago when I made a presentation to church and ministry leaders in Havana. Afterwards, Dr. Gonzalez expressed real interest in the OUTLINE Bible materials and training workshops for church leaders. Subsequently, he invited us for a series in 2008.
Upon completing those, he again asked us to return this past April, when he hosted and helped organize the 41 training sessions in 19 different locations of Central and Western Cuba. Dr. Gonzalez was present with us in some of the workshops, covering more than 1,100 km. He helped present the 10/30 Challenge to "graduates"; i.e. each would, upon their return, train/equip 10 others within 30 days. He was gratefully amazed at the 739 church leaders trained and equipped.
Next Thursday, August 5th, Dr. Gonzalez and Marcia will be sharing that evening with small group of CUBA777 prayer partners and friends. He is bringing the first copies printed in Havana, of OUTLINE Bible study books that we'll dedicate together, thanks to your prayers and love gifts.
Last Saturday, came the first email from Pastor Josè in more than 2 months, since he shared the list of "Victory Road" personnel needing prayer and assistance. Attached, you'll find answers to your prayers.... Thank you for your intercession on their behalf.
As you read, feel free to print and share with family and friends.
Recently we were blessed with a wonderful experience, RVing with friends through the Eastern High Sierras. They even tried to make a trout fisherman out of me, as we camped within a few feet of Owens River - one of California's best-known streams.
On our return last week, we wanted to visit Mt. Whitney. As our 27 ft. Lazy Daze began the arduous climb, suddenly the transmission blew, leaving only option of "coasting" the 7 miles back down the steep, curvy mountainside ... into Lone Pine, CA (famous for all the Western movies made there years ago).
"AmazinGrace" - our RV - sits in repair shop yard in Lone Pine, awaiting a Ford refurbished transmission. Pray with us for the cost of repair and soon return to service. (See picture below). Our next trip is scheduled to depart August 15th for a week.
August 28th, Jeannette and I are excited that we'll be sharing our 50th Wedding Anniversary with all our kids and friends. Sure seems like the years have fairly flown by since that hot Sunday in 1960 and our honey moon in Niagara Falls, enroute back to Wheaton/Moody.
CHINA. In closing, how I wish I had update word on Bro Shi, imprisoned in China. However, there has not been a single word from any source since last September, as to his status and condition. Please, continue to pray for him, his wife, and two daughters.
Your prayer and partnership with us under TITUS International and the CUBA777 project means more than words can express. Your emails, notes, cards, and calls encourage us immensely.
Blessings in Christ,
Jack & Jeannette Walker
