Why does TITUS focus on national Christian workers?
#16-Cooperation between national Christian workers and "western" Christian churches is mutually beneficial.Read More
At TITUS, our particular philosophy of missionary ministry can be summarized by three core beliefs:
We believe in the Great Commission!
We believe that the authority and responsibility for the Great Commission rests in the local church!
We believe that the success of the Great Commission requires local (national) Christian workers!
1. We believe in the Great Commission!
Every person on earth should hear the gospel and follow Jesus Christ!
At TITUS, that declaration is more than just a "philosophical" statement of an organization. We regard those words as a Divine command. If every person needs to hear, then every Christian needs to tell! Regardless of the cost, discomfort and obstacles, we believe that world evangelism has been entrusted to all believers by our Master. Our mission is to help spread the glorious news of the Gospel to the nations! Our desire is that the worldwide audience would not just hear God's good news, but act upon it in faith and obedience—joining us as committed followers of our Lord Jesus Christ!
2. We believe that the authority and responsibility for the Great Commission rests in the local church!
Although Christians may consider themselves part of a "universal" church, we believe that the Scriptures place a primary emphasis upon our individual involvement in a "local" church. Most of the expressions of worship and service found in the New Testament are carried out in the intimate context of a local assembly of Christians. Certainly, when it comes to the Great Commission—only visible, local assemblies of Christians have the power to impact their communities for Christ!
This distinction guides our missionary philosophy at TITUS. We believe that individual, local churches are the primary agent that God has chosen to impact the nations with His Gospel. Each local assembly is gifted by God with human leadership and given the authority to make disciples and multiply workers for the harvest. We believe that the sending and supervision of the missionary workforce rests primarily in the authority of the local church.
To that end, we work within the context of the local church, not independent of it. Everybody affiliated with TITUS is responsible to a local church. By choice, we all belong to churches that hold a conservative, fundamentalist approach to the Scriptures. We are servants of the local churches that send us, investing our lives in building local churches in the nations. TITUS is fully committed to pursuing the Great Commission through serving and building local New Testament churches.
3. We believe that the practical success of the Great Commission requires national Christian workers!
In fact, we assert that evangelizing, discipling, and training national workers for world evangelism is the Great Commission! Our mission is not complete until every person on earth has a witness for Christ from among their own people, in their own culture and language. Surely, this is the goal of every worldwide missionary endeavor—the stated aim of all mission agencies.
How is TITUS different from other mission agencies? The answer is our strong emphasis on developing national teams. We believe that investing in national workers is a scriptural, cost effective way to carry out the Great Commission in our generation.
For example: what we normally pay to send one foreign missionary to the field could support nearly 30 national workers in Moldova. It is not our intention to minimize the need for American missionaries. To the contrary, we believe and support the need for more foreign missionaries. However, we believe that foreign missionaries are most profitable as they teach, train and develop national teams. All of our national workers are accountable to TITUS resident missionaries in their countries, and all in turn, are accountable to our board of directors.
It is our desire and passion to start where others aim to end! Our strategic decision to focus upon the reproduction of national Christian workers keeps us clearly centered on the ultimate goal. It is our passion and purpose to do all that we can to assist local churches in training, equipping and sending forth the national Christian worker to plant churches among the nations. A grassroots movement of the Gospel in every nation of the world, led by the locals, is clearly what the Lord envisioned and what the mission requires. We invite you to join us in making that vision a reality!
THE TITUS INTERNATIONAL STORY
The story of TITUS International began in a Baptist church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Dr. Buddy Nichols was moved by the Lord to start TITUS while attending the annual mission conference at Highland Park Baptist Church. Dr. Nichols, past president of the college affiliated with the church (Tennessee Temple), founded TITUS in February of 1984, as a "mission support ministry," dedicated to training national Christian workers. Initially, the organization produced and supplied video-based Christian educational courses to help missionaries provide quality theological training for national workers. In January of 1991, David Marcum assumed the leadership of TITUS. With decades of missionary experience (as a church planter in Japan and as Far East Director for BIMI) Marcum's heart was moved for the nations of the world. During his first year as general director, he made the first of many trips to former Soviet Union countries. Witnessing the unprecedented need for workers in Easter Europe, he led TITUS to engage the world more directly with the gospel. In 1993, the organization transitioned from a "support ministry" to a mission agency—with the same emphasis on training national workers. Under his leadership, TITUS has grown to more than 100 missionaries and national workers.
Consequently, the majority of TITUS' ministry was born in Eastern Europe. Our first missionaries were instrumental in pioneering and establishing ministry in Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania. Others have joined their ranks, including dozens of national workers, to impact the region with the Gospel. Today, the ministry in Eastern Europe comprises churches, Bible institutes, orphanages and camp ministries.
In recent years, ministry has also expanded into other nations of the world. Missionaries working with TITUS have initiated ministry in Austria, the Czech Republic, France, India, the Philippines, USA, and the 10/40 window. The opportunities are endless and worldwide. TITUS is committed to seizing every opportunity—in every place—to train and mobilize national workers for the nations of the world.
TITUS International embraces the historic doctrines of conservative, "Fundamental" Christianity. Our doctrinal distinctives include the following.
• We believe in the inerrancy, infallibility and verbal plenary inspiration of the 66 books of the Holy Bible. We consider the Bible to be the final authority in all matters related to faith and practice.
• We believe in one God, eternally existent as a trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
• We believe in the sovereignty, holiness, immutability, omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence, and eternal existence of Almighty God as revealed in the Bible. He is the creator, sustainer and ultimate ruler of the world.
• We believe in the deity, virgin birth, sinless life, death, burial, bodily resurrection, and ascension into heaven of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God, Head of the church, and Savior of mankind.
• We believe in the imminent, premillennial and pretribulation return of Jesus Christ for the believer.
• We believe in the Holy Spirit. He convicts men of sin, draws them to Christ, baptizes them into His body, indwells them forever and communicates God's Word to their hearts.
• We believe in the total depravity of man, rendering him lost and condemned to eternal, conscious punishment in hell.
• We believe in everlasting salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ and sealed by the indwelling Holy Spirit.
• We believe in the resurrection of the saved (to eternal life) and the lost (to eternal damnation).
• We believe in the New Testament churches as organized bodies of believers, practicing Biblical ordinances and evangelizing/discipling the lost.
• We believe in Satan as a fallen archangel who leads the hosts of hell and will spend eternity in the lake of fire, along with all who refuse to believe on Jesus Christ.
