JORGE ROMERO TESTIMONY

I was born in 1961 in Bogota, Colombia, into a Roman Catholic home. Nearly 100% of Colombians are members of the Roman Catholic church, which is the state church.

My second birth occurred in 1974, during a revival meeting that my mom and I were attending. A friend had invited us. Since as Catholics we never read the Bible, we were spell-bound to watch our friend reading the Bible in church, as the pastor read and preached!! During his message from the Bible, Mom and I realized for the first time that we were sinners, were lost, and needed to be saved. Both of us were saved that night!

Shortly afterwards, an American missionary discipled me. Though he was a busy man (Colombian director for his mission board), he took the time to teach me the Bible and Christian principles in his home. Through his influence and ministry, I entered the Lord's service at age 22. This dear brother believed in nationals taking the responsibility for local church ministry, so he encouraged me to pastor, and he offered to help.

Together we started a Bible Church in Colombia. With his leadership and help, the church grew to about 120 people and became very mission-oriented. Eighty percent of our offerings went for missions, including supporting a missionary family and a single missionary, working in jungle tribal work. We also had a radio program for 10 years.

In 1993, Faith Bible Church of St. Louis, Missouri, invited us to come to help them with Hispanic ministry in inner-city St. Louis. While doing this work, a friend informed me of the large Spanish population in the Atlanta/northwest GA area. That was 1994, and God opened the door for us to come to Rome, Georgia, to work out of West Rome Baptist Church. Our work there grew from church planting to prison and radio ministry. In 2000, two church members from West Rome introduced us to Titus International. Through Titus, we will be expanding our Hispanic work to include training Spanish-speaking believers to plant churches and do evangelism among the area's 200,000+ Hispanics.

My total work also includes starting and assisting an Hispanic Pastor's Fellowship and working in an Atlanta area Hispanic center.

Most important is my role as husband to my dear wife Janeth and dad to our children, Mary Lou, Samuel, and Jorge. (That's the best job I have!)
